Justice and Remembrance: Apio Joan Faith’s Burial Plans Revised Amid Public Outcry

Soroti, Uganda – The tragic death of six-year-old Apio Joan Faith has left an entire community in mourning, prompting an overwhelming public demand for changes in her funeral arrangements.

The Burial Organizing Committee, led by Otukei Steven, has now revised the plans to ensure a respectful and fitting farewell that aligns with the wishes of the bereaved family and the grieving community.

Apio Joan Faith, a pupil at Jozan Nursery and Primary School, met a horrific end on February 6, 2025.

Her lifeless body was discovered in a school latrine with a deep cut on her neck, just days after she and her twin sister, Suzan Acen, were enrolled in the boarding section.

The gruesome circumstances surrounding her death have fueled public outrage and calls for justice, with many questioning the safety and welfare of children in learning institutions.

In response to this tragedy, the community has come together to honor Apio Joan Faith’s short but precious life.

A requiem mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Soroti City-East, offering a moment for loved ones to seek comfort and strength.

The body will then be taken to the deceased home inNakatunya, near Harmony Nursery School in Soroti City-West, for a brief viewing before being transported to Magoro Health Centre III for public viewing.

Later in the evening, the body will be moved to Ateuso Village, Kapelebyong District, where the final burial will take place on February 17, 2025.

To accommodate the large number of mourners expected to attend, transportation will be provided from Soroti and Katakwi, with further details to be communicated.

The family and the organizing committee have expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of support during this difficult time.
