Kole District–A high-level investigation into the alleged misuse of road funds in Kole District has been launched, with 13 district officials summoned to the Kole Central Police Station. The inquiry, filed under No. 005/24, follows complaints from MPs Peter Ocen Akalo (Kole South) and Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti (Kole North) regarding potential fraud by district officials.
According to ASP Jimmy Patrick Okema, North Kyoga Region Police PRO, four officials have reported and made statements, while the remaining nine are expected to appear today. Failure to do so will result in arrest.
The MPs allege that some district leaders mismanaged 370M, part of the 1BN roads rehabilitation funds, with Dr. Opio Acuti citing irregularities in road works, including discrepancies in fuel usage and project completion. MP Akalo alleges inflated costs for quarrying murram for road works.
However, Kole District LCV Chairman Moses Andrew Awany denies the allegations, attributing them to political motivations. He has urged the MPs to seek intervention from the State House Anticorruption Unit.
“The people of Kole District deserve to know how their funds have been utilized,” said Dr. Opio Acuti. “We will not tolerate any form of corruption or mismanagement of public resources.”
ASP Okema reassured the public that the police will conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
The allegations have sparked outrage and concern among the residents of Kole District, who demand transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
“We want to see the results of the investigation and those responsible brought to book,” said a local resident. “We can not continue to suffer due to the greed of a few individuals.”
