Lango Artists Propose Music School to Honor Late BP’s Legacy

Lira, Uganda – Musicians from Lango, under the Lango Entertainers Union, are calling for the establishment of a music school to honor the late Bernard Paul Munu, popularly known as BP.

BP, a celebrated musician in Northern Uganda, born on June 29, 1990, and died on January 24, 2024, in a motorcycle accident on Lira-Kampala road near Front Page Lounge.

To mark a year since his passing, a memorial prayer was held on Friday January 24, 2025, at his family home in Boke Agali, Lira East Division.

Maros Atine, alias Professor Maros, the leader of Lango Entertainers Union, emphasized the importance of preserving BP’s legacy by constructing a music school in his name.

“BP’s songs transformed lives. If we don’t act now, his name might be forgotten like other great musicians who were not honored,” Maros said.

He proposed that the school, to be named BP School of Music, could be built on BP’s family land if the family provides a portion, or funds could be raised to acquire land elsewhere.

He also announced plans to establish the BP Foundation, which would spearhead the school project.

The proposed school would train aspiring musicians in singing, songwriting, music production and playing instruments such as the guitar, piano, drums and keyboard.

According to Maros, the facility would nurture young talent across Northern Uganda and provide opportunities for growth in the music industry.

BP’s music, including popular songs like Akello, Par Pira, Makmot, Amuge and Mak Cinga, was praised for its cultural impact during the memorial.

Fans and artists described him as a talented and influential figure whose work brought joy and inspiration to many.

“We need to remember BP not just through words but through actions,” Maros added. “The BP School of Music will keep his legacy alive and inspire future generations of musicians.”
