Lango Registers 33 Aspirants in Ongoing NRM Nomination Exercise

Kampala, Uganda | Lango Sub-region has recorded a total of 33 aspirants as of 2nd June, 2025 who have picked nomination forms to contest in the NRM party primaries ahead of the 2026 general elections, according to the latest figures released by the NRM Electoral Commission.

The breakdown shows that 18 aspirants are targeting direct Constituency MP slots, 11 are seeking Woman MP positions, while 4 aspirants have expressed interest in the LC V Chairperson race.

Nationwide, 795 aspirants have so far picked nomination forms under the ongoing NRM Expression of Interest and Nomination exercise.

Of these, 427 are vying for Constituency MP seats, 210 for Woman MP, and 144 for LC V Chairperson, totaling 781 under constituency categories.

An additional 14 aspirants have picked forms under the Special Interest Group (SIG) MP slots, including Workers (3), PWDs (2), Older Persons (6), and Youth (3).

The Ankole Sub-region leads with the highest number of aspirants at 86, followed by Bukedi and Busoga, each with 66, while West Nile (56), Teso (50), and Rwenzori (61) also registered strong participation.

Lango’s 33 aspirants position the sub-region prominently among the active participants from Northern Uganda.

The NRM Secretariat says the figures reflect growing interest among party members to serve in various leadership positions and a strong commitment to internal democratic processes as the party prepares for the 2025 primaries and the 2026 national elections.
