Soroti, Uganda | Police in Soroti City East Division have opened investigations following the discovery of a charred body of an unidentified adult male in the forested area of Campswahili Ward.
The body, believed to be of a man aged over 30, was discovered by a group of sand collectors who were working in the area and immediately alerted local authorities.
According to Innocent Halerimana, the Officer in Charge of Soroti City East Division Police, the body was found burnt beyond recognition, with signs indicating a possible murder and an attempt to destroy evidence.
He said the body was severely decomposed, making it impossible to identify the victim at the scene.
Halerimana revealed that preliminary findings suggest the man may have been killed elsewhere before being transported to the scene.
Motorcycle tire marks were found nearby, and the victim’s hands and legs were tied, further reinforcing suspicions of foul play.
He explained that the perpetrators are believed to have used available firewood to burn the body in an effort to conceal the crime.
The police officer appealed to the public to report any cases of missing persons, noting that the charred state of the body made it impossible to identify the deceased through visual means.
He emphasized the need for community cooperation as investigations continue.
The body has since been taken to Soroti City Mortuary for forensic examination to aid in identification and provide clues that may lead to the arrest of those behind the suspected murder.
