Lira, Uganda | Youth leaders in Lango Subregion have asked organisers of the thanksgiving ceremony for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to ensure they are not excluded from engaging with the Head of State during his upcoming visit.
The appeal was made by Lira District Youth League chairperson Daniel Moro in a phone interview on Tuesday afternoon. Moro said the youth are fully mobilised and ready to welcome the President ahead of the thanksgiving ceremony scheduled for April 18, 2026, at Lango College.
He explained that youth leaders have prepared a memorandum highlighting key challenges affecting young people in the subregion, which they intend to present to the president.
Moro, however, raised concern over what he described as repeated exclusion of youth leaders from meeting the president during previous visits. He cited an earlier engagement at Lango College where youth representatives were reportedly denied access, a move he said left them disappointed.
He noted that youth leaders played a crucial role in mobilising support that contributed to Museveni’s victory in Lango during the 2026 general elections, adding that they should be given an opportunity to directly present their concerns.
Moro urged organisers of the thanksgiving ceremony to prioritise inclusivity and ensure that youth voices are represented during the event.
Meanwhile, North Kyoga Region Police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema said security agencies are prepared to ensure safety of the public during the function, which is expected to attract large crowds.
President Museveni is expected to attend the thanksgiving ceremony in Lira on Saturday.
