Lira City West Police Arrest Five in Murder Probe

Lira, Uganda – The police in Lira City West Division are investigating the suspected murder of 44-year-old Ogwal Bonny, a self-employed resident of Ober Kampala in Ojwina Ward.

The incident occurred on December 4, 2024, under mysterious circumstances that have left the community in shock.

According to a report filed by Ojwang Fred, a 46-year-old resident of Obutowelo ‘B’ Cell, Bonny returned home on the evening of December 4, heavily intoxicated and went to sleep in his house.

The following morning, neighbors noticed his door was open and upon checking inside, found him lying lifeless in a pool of blood.

A large stone, stained with blood, was found beside him, suggesting foul play.

Local council leaders were immediately informed, and a murder case was reported to the police at Lira City West Division.

A team of officers from Lira City West Division Police Station, led by the Division CID Officer, with support from canine units attached to North Kyoga Regional Headquarters, responded to the scene.

Police cordoned off the area, took photographs and documented crucial evidence.

The canine unit tracked down the suspects, leading to the arrest of five individuals.

The arrested suspects are: Okeny Innocent, 41, resident of Ober Kampala, Akite Jacinta, 42, resident of Ober Kampala, Otuke William Joshua, 25, resident of Ober Kampala, Okello Ivan, 21, resident of Ober Kampala and Ogwok Emmanuel, 18, resident of Ober Kampala.

The suspects are currently in custody at Lira City West Division Police Station to assist in the ongoing investigation.

Bonny’s body was transported to Lira Regional Referral Hospital, where he was confirmed dead and has been moved to the mortuary, awaiting a postmortem examination.

In a statement, Police Spokesperson for North Kyoga Region, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, urged anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.
