A four-day mega evangelistic crusade is set to bring together christians, pastors, and residents in Lira City, with organisers promising a message of hope, spiritual transformation, healing, and deliverance through Jesus Christ.
The Lira Mega Crusade, organised by Lift Evangelistic Ministries in partnership with local churches, will start on Thursday, September 10, at 3:00pm at the Lira City Mayor’s Garden and run until Sunday, September 13.
Canadian evangelist Joel Wells, who pastors Harvest City Church in Saskatchewan, said the mission is intended to give people an opportunity to seek Jesus Christ for spiritual transformation, healing, and deliverance.
Wells, who has conducted evangelistic missions in Uganda through Lift Evangelistic Ministries for about 12 years, said the ministry draws inspiration from Psalm 40:2, which speaks of God lifting people from despair and placing their feet on solid ground. He said the Lira mission would provide an opportunity for people to surrender their lives to Jesus, while prayers would also be offered for the sick and those facing difficult circumstances or what they consider spiritual oppression.
Wells, however, stressed that he is not a healer, saying healing comes through Jesus Christ, whom he described as the source of hope and transformation.
Pastor Peter Kasirivu of Gaba Community Church in Kampala said hundreds of churches under the pastors’ fellowship had joined efforts to take the gospel of Jesus Christ to Lira and surrounding areas.
Kasirivu said the crusade would feature worship, testimonies, gospel preaching, and prayers for the sick and people going through difficult circumstances. He also announced a special conference for pastors and other spiritual leaders from Lira and neighbouring districts, aimed at encouraging ministers, strengthening their leadership, and providing deeper teaching on their role as shepherds of God’s people.
Kasirivu urged pastors and church ministers to attend the conference, saying it would provide an opportunity for them to learn, share experiences, and renew their commitment to ministry.
Rev. Johnson Ogema, the Victory Outreach Church Ministries team leader and chairperson of the Lift Evangelistic Mission Crusade, said he believed God’s will would be fulfilled in the lives of individuals, families and churches during the event. Ogema urged residents to turn up in large numbers, saying the crusade was expected to attract people from different parts of Lira City because, according to him, “God has something to do for the people of this city.”
Rev. Thomas Mike Obong, chairperson of the Lira Pastors and Elders Fellowship, also invited people facing different challenges to attend the crusade.
Obong particularly appealed to people burdened by disease, those who have not yet accepted Jesus Christ as their Saviour and people going through hardships in life to attend and witness what he described as the work of God in their lives.
