Alebtong, Uganda | The Government of Uganda has delivered two brand-new, state-of-the-art ambulances to Alebtong District in a major effort to strengthen emergency healthcare delivery in rural communities.
The intervention, facilitated through the support of President Yoweri Museveni and Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua, was confirmed on Thursday by Mathias Lutwama, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Alebtong.
According to Lutwama, the ambulances are equipped with advanced diagnostic tools and cardiopulmonary life support systems, placing them among the most sophisticated emergency response units currently in operation within the country.
He said the initiative was a strong demonstration of the government’s commitment to transforming communities through accessible healthcare, in line with the NRM manifesto’s pledge to ensure universal and quality medical services.
Lutwama emphasized that ambulance services across Alebtong District remain entirely free to the public.
He further noted that the cost of fuel and all operational expenses are institutionally covered on a quarterly basis by government-run health facilities in the district.
The delivery is expected to greatly improve referral efficiency, especially in rural areas where poor road infrastructure and lack of transport options have often led to life-threatening delays.
Health workers in the region believe the new ambulances will reduce response times and improve survival chances for patients in critical condition.
Hamson Obua, the Ajuri County area MP and Government Chief Whip, has been instrumental in mobilizing central government resources to enhance health services in the Lango Sub-region.
District officials credited his advocacy at the national level as key to the timely delivery of the ambulances.
The development is seen by observers as part of the NRM government’s broader rural health strategy aimed at translating policy commitments into real-world benefits for underserved populations.
Local leaders and residents have welcomed the arrival of the vehicles, calling it a milestone in the district’s healthcare journey.
