Lira City, Uganda – Football fans in Lira City are set for an electrifying showdown as Mentor SS and Dr. Obote College (DOC) face off in the highly anticipated final of the Lira City USSSA Football Tournament.
The match, originally set for an earlier date, has been rescheduled to Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Ambalal Primary School to give both teams ample time for recovery and tactical preparations.
Mentor SS secured their spot in the final after a hard-fought campaign. They edged Faith SS 1-0 in the quarterfinals before meeting Lira Town College in a tense semifinal.
After a draw in regular time, Mentor SS held their nerve to win 4-2 on penalties, sending them into the championship match.
Their run has been marked by solid defensive performances and clinical finishing.
Dr. Obote College, on the other hand, showed resilience on their way to the final. They defeated King James Comprehensive Secondary School 1-0 in a tightly contested semifinal, proving their ability to grind out results under pressure.
With a strong squad and tactical discipline, DOC now aims to dethrone Mentor SS and claim the title.
The girls’ competition has also delivered thrilling action, with St. Mary’s Magdalene Girls Secondary School asserting their dominance.
They stormed into the final with a commanding 6-0 victory over St. Katherine Girls Secondary School.
Their opponents, Top Star Secondary School, earned their place after edging King James Comprehensive Secondary School 2-1 in their semifinal clash.
The Lira City USSSA Football Tournament kicked off on March 14, 2025, at Erute and Anai Primary Schools, featuring 18 schools battling for five slots in the upcoming Lango Zonal USSSA Tournament.
The zonal competition, scheduled for April 7-10, 2025, will be hosted by St. Mary’s Magdalene and Dr. Obote College.
Several schools have already booked their tickets to the zonals.
In the boys’ category, the qualifiers include:
1. Mentor SS (Defending champions)
2. Comboni College
3. King James Comprehensive SS
4. Light Vocational SS
5. Dr. Obote College (Hosts)
For the girls, the following teams have secured qualification:
1. Acaba SS (Defending champions)

4. Top Star SS
5. St. Mary’s Magdalene Girls SS
With a championship title on the line, both Mentor SS and Dr. Obote College will be looking to prove their dominance in Lira City football.

Fans are expected to turn up in large numbers at Ambalal Primary School on Sunday for what promises to be a pulsating clash.
