Kiryandongo, Uganda | The Minister of Health and Woman Member of Parliament for Lira City, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, has extended financial support to foot pilgrims from Lira Diocese, contributing UGX 1 million to aid their pilgrimage to Namugongo for the annual Martyrs’ Day celebrations.
In an exclusive interview with Dokolo Post, the pilgrims’ spokesperson, Goddy Akio, confirmed that the delegation met the Minister on May 21, 2025, around Kibanda in Kiryandongo District.
During a brief encounter, Dr. Aceng handed over the cash donation to the Chancellor of Lira Diocese and Parish Priest of Lira Cathedral, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Opio.
According to Akio, Dr. Aceng also pledged to rejoin the pilgrims in Kasana–Luwero, where they are scheduled to rest for two days.
She expressed her commitment to meet and encourage the faithful during their stopover.
The pilgrims warmly welcomed the gesture, expressing heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Aceng and other leaders who continue to support them on their journey of faith.
Dr. Aceng becomes the third political leader to back the Lira Diocese pilgrims. Earlier contributions were made by Santa Alum Ogwang, Woman MP for Oyam District, who donated UGX 200,000, and former Minister Daniel Omara Atubo.
Meanwhile, the pilgrims departed Kigumba Parish earlier this morning and are expected to spend the night at Nakitoma Primary School.
Their next stop is Migyera, where they plan to rest for two days before resuming the spiritual journey to Namugongo.
