Lira City, July 21, 2024The Miss Lango Grand Finale 2024 took place at the Pacific Grand Hotel, bringing together over 1,000 attendees to celebrate the beauty, culture, and environmental advocacy of the Lango region. This year’s event was not only a showcase of grace and talent but also a platform to highlight pressing environmental issues.

Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, a prominent figure known for her dedication to public health and community development, made significant contributions to the event. Through her representative Emma Okite, Dr. Aceng donated 1 million UGX to support the Miss Lango Grand Finale. In addition to the financial support, she provided 100 tree seedlings to each of the 11 contestants, emphasizing the importance of combating environmental degradation. Her contributions and congratulatory messages to the organizers were a testament to her commitment to environmental sustainability and community empowerment.

Lira District Woman Member of Parliament, Linda Agnes Auma, took the stage to urge the attendees to actively engage in tree planting to curb environmental degradation. Her passionate appeal resonated with the audience, highlighting the critical need for environmental conservation efforts in the region.

Northern Uganda Youth MP Okot Boniface, the Chief Guest of the evening, commended the large turnout and the enthusiasm of the participants and attendees. He emphasized the importance of giving the contestants a platform to voice their concerns on environmental issues, suggesting that they should be taken to parliament to air their views. In a generous gesture, MP Okot contributed 1 million UGX to the event organizers, further supporting the cause.

The competition was fierce, with each contestant showcasing their unique talents and dedication to various causes. The Second Runner-up, contestant No. 6, was awarded a cheque of 500,000 UGX. The First Runner-up, contestant No. 10, received a cheque of 1,000,000 UGX. The prestigious title of Miss Lango 2024/25 was awarded to contestant No. 8, Linda Acio Abong, who walked away with a cheque of 1,500,000 UGX.

The highlight of the evening was the crowning of Linda Acio Abong as Miss Lango 2024/25 by Northern Uganda Youth MP Boniface Okot. Her poise, eloquence, and commitment to environmental advocacy earned her the title, symbolizing the beauty and strength of the Lango community.
