Lira City, Uganda – The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) is on the hunt for Okwany Denish, a resident of Amuca Ward in Lira City West Division, who allegedly conned 700 million Ugandan shillings from the daughter of a brother to former Lands Minister Sam Engola.
Okwany reportedly deceived the victim by claiming to construct a house for her.
In a shocking turn of events, Wilson Etuku, Okwany’s father, reported that UPDF officers stormed his home on July 7th, 2024, at around 2 am in search of his son.
The officers allegedly stated that they were sent by Sam Engola to seize control of the property and its belongings.
Mr. Etuku expressed disbelief at the officers’ claims that the house did not belong to his son, despite his long-standing belief to the contrary.
Sam Engola, in a phone interview, confirmed the allegations against Okwany, stating that he had collected substantial evidence proving the con, including a copy of the agreement between Okwany and his niece.
Mr. Engola disclosed that Okwany had vowed to flee when contacted by phone.
In response, Engola sought assistance from UPDF’s Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) to apprehend Okwany and hold him accountable for his fraudulent activities.
While Okwany’s father insists that his son has been arrested, Sam Engola asserts that Okwany remains at large.
Engola remains determined to ensure Okwany’s capture and subsequent prosecution for his alleged crimes.
As the search for Okwany Denish continues, the residents of Lira City West Division anxiously await further developments in this high-profile case of deception and fraud.
