Kampala, Uganda | Kyoga County Member of Parliament and FDC Legal Secretary, Moses Jr. Okot Bitek, has strongly denied allegations linking him to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), reaffirming his unwavering commitment to the opposition.
Addressing the media at a press briefing held yesterday in Kampala, Okot Bitek dismissed what he termed as “ferocious propaganda” being peddled by unnamed individuals aiming to distort his political allegiance.
Elected as a joint opposition candidate in Kyoga County in Amolatar District, Okot Bitek ran on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket.
He has held the FDC flag since his university days, serving as Chairperson of the Makerere University Chapter and later as Guild President at the Law Development Centre (LDC).
The youthful legislator, who describes himself as a millennial bridging into the Gen Z generation, emphasized that his political path is rooted firmly within the opposition movement.
He revealed ambitions to contest for leadership positions within the FDC in the coming years.
Okot Bitek also issued a stern warning to media houses and individuals propagating false narratives about his political affiliation.
While expressing respect for the role of the press in a democratic society, he cautioned against publishing defamatory content.
The press briefing comes in response to social media chatter and speculative reports claiming that Okot Bitek may be leaning toward the ruling party.
He categorically refuted these claims and urged media platforms to exercise professionalism and verify information before publication.
Moses Jr. Okot Bitek continues to serve as Legal Secretary of the Forum for Democratic Change, and his statement is expected to put to rest the swirling rumours regarding his political future.
