Kampala, Uganda | Otala Wilbert has officially joined the race for the Oyam North County parliamentary seat, picking nomination forms from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission offices in Nakasero on Friday afternoon.
Speaking shortly after submitting his Expression of Interest documents, Otala described his decision as both political and spiritual.
He urged the people of Oyam North to turn to prayer as the country heads into a heated electoral season, saying voters should find clarity and moral guidance from their places of worship churches and mosques to make the right choices.
He positioned himself as a faith-driven candidate, stating that only God-fearing leadership can offer the integrity and development that the community needs.
In a passionate address delivered partly in the Lango language, Otala declared himself as “Nyig kibirit acel kiken adong odong me menyo Oyam imalo”, which he translated as “the last matchstick in the box.”
He explained that this symbolised his belief that he is the final spark needed to ignite transformation and restore hope in Oyam North.
Otala called on the NRM party to front a candidate of unquestionable integrity.
He emphasized that the Movement must not field candidates with tainted reputations, stressing that only a clean, credible flagbearer could inspire public trust, defeat the opposition, and deliver tangible results to the people.
His declaration is expected to add momentum to the Oyam North race, which is shaping up to be one of the more closely watched contests in the Lango sub-region.
The NRM Electoral Commission continues to receive nominations from aspirants across the country ahead of the party primaries scheduled for later this year.
