Otuke, Uganda | The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for Otuke District, Dickens Okello Erick, has raised alarm over the appointment of multiple registrars from single families amid high unemployment, warning this trend could undermine the party’s credibility.
Okello spoke during a key meeting of Otuke NRM mainstream executive members held at Town Side Main Hotel on Friday, as the party prepares for the 2026 general elections.
He urged party officials to uphold fairness and transparency in recruitment processes to avoid internal conflicts and nepotism.
Julius Acon Bua, Otuke District NRM Chairperson-elect and MP for Otuke East, emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration between newly elected and returning party leaders to strengthen the party’s foundation.
Acon hailed the peaceful conduct of the recent NRM primaries in Otuke, contrasting them with violent incidents in neighboring districts.
He further called on all NRM registrars, from grassroots to district level, to maintain neutrality and resist any form of vote-buying or political manipulation.
The party treasurer, Apio Betty Opio, encouraged members to intensify grassroots mobilisation efforts, pointing out that rival parties like UPC and NUP are already making inroads in the district.
Publicity Secretary Eddy Okwir called for transparency and urged party members to shun divisive elements that could disrupt cohesion.
Otuke District NRM Registrar, Boniface Ouni, praised the primaries as the most peaceful in the Lango sub-region, reporting no petitions or complaints.
The meeting wrapped up with commitments from all leaders to promote transparency, teamwork, and vigorous mobilisation ahead of the 2026 polls.
