Soroti, Uganda | Hundreds of job seekers braved the heat and early morning queues at Soroti Sports Ground today as the Uganda Prisons Service kicked off its regional recruitment exercise.
More than 800 applicants from across the Teso Sub-region turned up in hopes of joining the national force.
According to Simon Wansadha, the Commissioner of Prisons Safety and Security, the exercise aims to attract disciplined, committed, and qualified Ugandan citizens into the service.
“…We are impressed by the turnout. It shows that the youth are eager to serve their country through structured and meaningful service…,” Wansadha noted.
To qualify, applicants must be Ugandan citizens aged 18 to 30, with a minimum of a Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or S.4 certificate, including credit passes in both Mathematics and English.
The recruitment involves both oral and written interviews to assess physical fitness, aptitude, and suitability for the role.
The Soroti recruitment center is catering to applicants from Soroti City, Soroti District, Kumi, Amuria, Katakwi, Kapelebyong, Ngora, Bukedea, and Serere.
Successful candidates from this round will be notified through the Prisons Headquarters in Kampala.
The Teso Sub-region team will next head to Karamoja on Wednesday, May 14, to conduct a similar exercise for applicants from Moroto, Nakapiripirit, Nabilatuk, Napak, and Amudat.
The recruitment will then proceed to Kotido on Friday, May 16, covering Kotido, Abim, Kaabong, and Karenga districts.
The nationwide recruitment drive is part of the Uganda Prisons Service’s annual effort to boost manpower and enhance the delivery of correctional services across the country.
