Lira, Uganda | Pamella Angwech, daughter of Senior Presidential Advisor and Erute South MP-elect Sam Engola, has been declared unopposed as the Female Workers’ Representative for Lira District.
The declaration was made on Thursday by Lira District Returning Officer Maureen Akulu at the Electoral Commission offices in Lira City, following an uncontested nomination process.
Speaking after her declaration, Angwech thanked the district’s workers’ delegates for placing their trust in her and enabling her to emerge unopposed under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.
She pledged to serve as a strong voice for workers, promising to defend labour rights and promote respect for employees across all workplaces.
She urged workers to uphold professional ethics and emphasised that her leadership would focus on ensuring fair treatment for women at their places of work, regardless of party, religious, or cultural affiliations.
Angwech also thanked the NRM government, led by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for creating opportunities for workers’ representation at both local government and parliamentary levels.
Angwech’s unopposed victory adds to her growing political profile, nine months ago, she was elected unopposed as the NRM Youth League Vice Chairperson for Lira City during elections held at Ambalal Primary School.
Her victory was seen as a clear indication of confidence and support from the youth and grassroots leaders.
At that time, she pledged to promote unity, inclusiveness, youth empowerment, and consultative leadership aimed at strengthening the youth league.
Her leadership is expected to focus on workers’ welfare, advocacy for women’s rights, and promoting active participation in national development.
