Police Investigate Sudden Death of Bar Attendant in Lira City

Lira, Uganda | Police in Lira City West Division have opened investigations into the sudden death of a 37-year-old bar attendant whose body was found outside his rented room in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The deceased, identified as Douglas Kiwanuka, worked at Vintage Lounge in Lira City.

His body was discovered at about 3:00 a.m. at Kulu-Ahali Cell in Teso C Ward, Lira City West Division.

According to police, the incident was reported by a neighbour, Mr Opio Isaac, 47, who alerted authorities after finding Kiwanuka lying lifeless in front of his rented room.

Police officers, led by the District Criminal Investigations Officer, D/ASP Phoebe Nansereko, responded to the scene with a team of detectives and uniformed personnel.

The scene was documented by the District Scene of Crime Officer before the body was taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Items recovered from the scene included a blister pack of Coartem, Fluvid syrup, glucose circuits, leftover food comprising matoke and beans, and an empty bottle of water.

Preliminary findings indicate that the body was found lying on its back, partially dressed, with foam oozing from the mouth and nose.

Police also noted that the door to the deceased’s rented room was open at the time of discovery.

According to neighbours and management at Vintage Lounge, the deceased had been unwell for about two weeks prior to his death.

North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson SP Jimmy Patrick Okema said inquiries are ongoing as police await the post-mortem report to establish the exact cause of death and guide further action.

Police have urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue.
