Oyam, Uganda — The Uganda Police Force has raised concerns over accountability and commitment after 20 out of 288 shortlisted candidates failed to attend the police recruitment interviews held on Monday April 28, 2025 at Anyeke Primary School in Oyam District.
North Kyoga Police spokesperson SP Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed the no-shows, stating that no explanations had been provided.
He added that one candidate was disqualified on the spot for reporting without any academic documents or a national ID, both of which are mandatory.
SP Okema said the recruitment process was strictly merit-based and emphasized that it was not for sale. He warned that any parent or candidate caught attempting to bribe recruitment officials—whether by offering or receiving money—would face arrest.
Oyam District Chairperson Benson Walter Dilla Oyuku urged the recruitment officers to maintain transparency and fairness throughout the process.
He stated that those selected should be individuals who genuinely met the requirements, not those with influence or connections.
At the recruitment venue, Retired Rev. Col. Johnson Patrick Otim, who had accompanied his daughter, expressed hope that the process would remain fair.
He explained that his family had followed all application procedures honestly and expected the selection to reflect that effort.
The recruitment continues across the North Kyoga Region, with the following schedule:
- April 29 – Kole District, Kole Primary School
- April 30 – Apac District, Apac Primary School
- May 2 – Kwania District, Aduku Secondary School
- May 3 – Lira City and District, Lira Police Primary School
- May 4 – Dokolo and Alebtong Districts, Dokolo Technical and Alebtong Primary Schools
- May 5 – Amolatar and Otuke Districts, Amolatar SSS and Orum Primary School
All shortlisted candidates are required to report by 7:00 AM with valid documentation. Police authorities maintain that only those who meet the set criteria will proceed to the next stages.
