Dokolo, Uganda – Dokolo District has launched a significant infrastructure project to tarmac Obote Avenue, which extends to Market Street in Dokolo Town Council.
The 0.6-kilometer stretch will be upgraded using a low-cost sealing method, with the project budgeted at UGX 398.8 million.
The contract, awarded to Rhino Engineering Company Ltd, is expected to be completed within four months.
Speaking at the project launch, Dokolo District RDC Barbara Akech emphasized the need for quality work that reflects the allocated budget.
She warned the contractor against abandoning the project due to internal challenges such as unpaid workers.
“I do not want to hear excuses or see this project stalled. We must ensure value for money and deliver a road that meets the expectations of our community,” Aketch stated firmly.
The Vice Chairperson of Dokolo District LCV, Tonny Odongo Ocen, called on the contractor to utilize local materials to stimulate the local economy.
He highlighted the benefits of supporting local suppliers, which would, in turn, generate revenue within the community.
Charles Dickens Omara, the District Engineer, echoed these sentiments, appealing to Rhino Engineering Company Ltd to maintain the highest standards of workmanship.
He emphasized the importance of completing the project within the stipulated four-month timeframe.
“This road is vital for the development of Dokolo Town Council. It must stand as a testament to effective resource utilization and excellent engineering,” Omara remarked.
Odongo Jimmy, the Director of Rhino Engineering Company Ltd, reassured the leaders and residents that the company is committed to delivering the project on time and ensuring its quality meets expectations.
“We are honored to undertake this project and promise to deliver work that is worth every shilling allocated to it,” he said.
The road construction is part of ongoing efforts by the district leadership to improve infrastructure and boost economic activities in the town council.
Once completed, the upgraded road is expected to ease transportation, enhance trade, and improve access to services for residents and businesses within Dokolo Town.
