Lira, Uganda – A wave of hope swept through the community as 40 single mothers and orphans celebrated their graduation after completing six months of intensive vocational training at the Chosen Generation Transformation Centre.
The ceremony, held on Friday 13th December 2024, was a momentous occasion, symbolizing triumph over adversity and a commitment to building a brighter future.
In his keynote address, Mr. George Abdul, Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Otuke, praised the graduates for their resilience and determination in overcoming immense personal and societal challenges.
“Today, we celebrate not just your academic achievements but the incredible resilience and unwavering spirit that brought you here. Despite the loss, uncertainty, and responsibilities you have faced, you stand here as beacons of hope, proving that with determination, no circumstance can extinguish your light,” he remarked.
The Chosen Generation Transformation Centre, established in 2012, provides critical support to single mothers and orphaned girls from Northern and parts of Eastern Uganda.
It offers vocational training in skills such as tailoring, knitting, and entrepreneurship to empower women with tools for self-reliance.
During the ceremony, Mr. Abdul announced his personal contribution of UGX 700,000 towards the purchase of a new knitting machine to bolster training in sweater-making.
He also commended the institution’s leadership for their dedication over the past 12 years and extended gratitude to the landlord for generously providing land for its establishment.
“This institution has become a beacon of transformation, enabling women to uplift themselves, their children, and their communities. The skills you have acquired are not just for today but are tools for shaping a brighter future for generations to come,” Abdul said.
Each graduate received a startup package, including a sewing machine and a roll of fabric, to foster continuity in their respective skill areas.
This generous gesture underscores the Centre’s commitment to ensuring its graduates have the resources to translate their training into sustainable livelihoods.
Mr. Abdul urged the attendees to continue supporting President Museveni, emphasizing that his vision aligns closely with the Centre’s mission of empowering vulnerable populations.
Speaking on behalf of the graduates, one of the single mothers expressed heartfelt gratitude for the training and support.
“This Centre has given us more than skills; it has restored our hope and dignity. We are ready to transform our lives and communities,” she said.
As the sun set over Alyet, the smiles of the graduates radiated the promise of a new chapter.
The Chosen Generation Transformation Centre continues to stand as a symbol of empowerment, creating opportunities for those society often overlooks.
This graduation is not the end but a powerful beginning for these courageous women and their journey toward a brighter tomorrow.
