Lira City, Uganda – In a significant display of solidarity and commitment to Lango’s progress, Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) and Resident City Commissioners (RCCs) gathered at the Lango Cultural Centre for a meeting with the Wonyaci Elect Dr. Eng. Moses Odongo Okune.
The meeting, sanctioned by Minister for Presidency Milly Babalanda, aimed to strengthen ties between commissioners and Lango Cultural Institution.
RDC Gillian Akullu of Alebtong, representing RDC and RCCs’ whip of Lango George Abdul, expressed gratitude to Wonyaci Elect for organizing the event and emphasized the importance of cooperation between cultural institutions and the central government.
The commissioners vowed to work with the current Lango Cultural Institution leadership and address any challenges that arise during transitions.
Mr. Oguti Sebastian Hostrine, Deputy Dean of RDCs and RCCs in Uganda, highlighted the need for collaboration between cultural institutions and government bodies in tackling pressing issues such as HIV prevalence in Northern Uganda.
He emphasized that cultural leaders must maintain impartiality when handling disputes among their subjects.
Raymond Otim, former RPC who spoke on behalf of Owitong called on RDCs and RCCs to actively support the installation of Wonyaci Elect, while Peter Okello Oyo, Awitong of Bako Pelkori Apwor and Peace Transition Lead in Lango, urged leaders to monitor and address concerns about Seed Schools charging learners.
Wonyaci Elect Dr. Eng. Moses Michael Odongo Okune expressed appreciation for the RDCs and RCCs’ contributions to Lango’s development and acknowledged the challenges posed by poverty in the region.
He emphasized the importance of promoting money economy strategies and called on leaders to prioritize the needs of the youth.
Dr. Eng. Odongo Okune also pledged his administration’s willingness to collaborate with the NRM government and invited the RDCs and RCCs to attend his coronation on November 2nd, 2023.
