Soroti, Uganda | Soroti City West Member of Parliament-elect and NRM National Vice Chairman for Eastern Uganda, Calvin Echodu, on Saturday pledged UGX 10 million to the Uganda Medical Association (UMA) Teso Chapter SACCO and promised to facilitate an international benchmarking trip for selected doctors to China and India.
The announcements were made during the UMA Teso Chapter Annual General Meeting at Soroti Hotel, which brought together medical professionals from across the Teso sub-region and the country.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the association’s performance over the past year, elect new leadership, and discuss challenges facing healthcare delivery in the region.
Addressing the gathering, Echodu commended doctors for their dedication, particularly in a resource-constrained environment, and highlighted their critical role in improving patient outcomes and strengthening Uganda’s healthcare system.
In addition to the financial support to the UMA Teso SACCO, Echodu said the international benchmarking trip would expose selected doctors to advanced medical technologies and best practices in healthcare management.
He emphasized that such exposure would enhance service delivery in Teso and across Uganda.
Echodu also committed to advocating for policies and mobilizing resources to support medical practitioners in the region, stressing the importance of economic and professional empowerment to motivate doctors and improve healthcare delivery.
UMA Teso Chapter members welcomed the pledges, expressing optimism that partnerships with political leaders would help address persistent challenges in the health sector.
The AGM underscored the need for continuous professional development, financial stability, and policy support to ensure that medical practitioners can deliver quality care to communities throughout the Teso sub-region.
