Dokolo, July 20, 2024 – A devastating accident occurred on the evening of July 19, 2024, claiming the life of 16-year-old Oyuku Fedelis, a resident of Odeye Central Cell, Amuda Eastern Ward, Agwata Town Council, Dokolo District. The incident took place around 8:00 PM at Agwata Trading Centre along the Lira-Soroti Road.

According to SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Region Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), the accident involved a silver Toyota Noah with the registration number UBL 579U. The vehicle was travelling from Lira towards Soroti when it struck Oyuku Fedelis, who was crossing the road. The impact was fatal; Oyuku died instantly at the scene.
Upon receiving information about the accident, the Dokolo District Traffic Officer promptly arrived at the scene. The deceased’s body was retrieved and transported to Dokolo HCIV Mortuary for a postmortem examination. Preliminary investigations suggest that speeding might have been a significant factor contributing to the accident.
SP Okema has issued a public appeal for the driver involved in the incident to come forward. “We urge the driver of the silver Noah to report to the nearest police station. It is crucial for the investigation, and it is easier for us to identify the vehicle’s owner through Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) records,” he stated.
The community of Dokolo is in mourning following this tragic event. The loss of Oyuku Fedelis has deeply affected local residents, underscoring the need for increased road safety measures and vigilance. This incident highlights the urgent need for drivers to adhere to speed limits and exercise caution, especially in pedestrian-heavy areas.
