Kampala, Uganda – Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) Party President Jimmy Akena Obote is set to resume his nationwide tour with visits to Kaberamaido and Kalaki districts in the Teso sub-region on Saturday, March 1, 2025 and Sunday, March 2, 2025, respectively.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the UPC party headquarters at Uganda House in Kampala, the party spokesperson, Arach Oyat Sharon, appealed to the police not to interfere with or cancel planned venues, warning that such actions could provoke unnecessary political tensions.
“It involves many service providers for a successful event. Any alterations to venues at the last moment may raise unnecessary political tempers which can lead to violence that would have been avoided,” Arach cautioned.
Her comments follow a recent incident in Alebtong District on February 22, 2025, where UPC supporters were dispersed by police using teargas and forced to walk over 3 kilometers to an alternative venue.
Arach urged security agencies to ensure such disruptions do not occur during the upcoming visits.
Faizal Muzeyi, the head of communications and media at UPC, echoed the party’s commitment to peaceful political engagement, calling on stakeholders to uphold democracy as the country moves toward the 2026 general elections.
“As UPC, we call for peace before, during, and after elections. Our democracy needs to be safeguarded at all times. Political space ought to be expanded to enable leaders to engage directly with the people who are the voters,” Muzeyi emphasized.
The UPC’s outreach efforts in the Teso sub-region are part of a broader campaign to strengthen grassroots support and amplify the party’s message ahead of the 2026 polls.
