Otuke East Member of Parliament Julius Achon Bua has issued a passionate appeal to residents of his constituency to turn up in large numbers for the launch of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) in Lira City on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
Speaking to our reporter in an exclusive interview on Friday, Achon confirmed that preparations for the Otuke East contingent are in “higher gears,” with mobilization teams already deployed across the constituency to ensure a strong showing at the event.
“I want to call upon the people of Otuke East to come out massively on Sunday. This is a historic moment for the Lango Sub-region, and Otuke must be fully represented,” Achon said. “Our arrangements and preparations are in higher gears. We have coordinated transport and mobilization teams across all sub-counties to ensure our people participate.”
The launch, to be held at Mayor’s Garden in Lira City, will formally endorse Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for the 2031 presidential bid. The event is expected to draw thousands of supporters from across Lango Sub-region and beyond.
Achon, who also serves as the NRM District Chairperson for Otuke, used the occasion to call upon his two fellow legislators to mobilize delegates for the historic event.
“Being the NRM District Chair as well, I call upon my two Honourable members, Paul Omara and Hon. Abeja Susan, to bring as many delegates as they can,” Achon said. “This is a collective effort, and we must all work together to ensure Otuke District is fully represented.”
The Otuke East legislator, a former Olympian and two-time national team captain, emphasized that the Otuke community has a duty to participate in shaping the region’s political future.
“Politics is about the future of our children. When such a movement comes to our doorstep, we cannot afford to sit back,” he said. “I urge every resident—young and old—to make the journey to Lira City and be part of this defining moment.”
Achon, who has built a reputation for grassroots development initiatives including borehole drilling, livestock distribution, and road maintenance, said he views the PLU endorsement drive as complementary to his ongoing efforts to uplift households in his constituency.
“Development and politics go hand in hand. The people of Otuke have supported me in my work, and I am asking them to support this movement as well,” Achon stated.
The PLU endorsement exercise is free of charge and open to all residents regardless of political affiliation, provided they support Gen. Muhoozi’s candidacy. Organizers have indicated that registration will be available at the venue for those who wish to participate.
Achon further urged residents traveling from Otuke District to adhere to the transportation arrangements made by mobilization coordinators to ensure a smooth and orderly participation.
“This is not just about Lira City or Otuke. This is about the future of our entire region. Let us show the country that Lango is united and ready,” he said.
The Lira City launch is part of a nationwide endorsement drive that has already seen activities in Kampala, Mayuge, and Igara East. PLU officials have described the initiative as a grassroots endorsement exercise rather than a formal presidential campaign, noting that Gen. Muhoozi remains an active military officer who would need to retire before seeking elective office.
As the countdown to Sunday continues, Achon expressed confidence that Otuke District would deliver a strong and peaceful presence at the historic gathering.
“We are ready. The people of Otuke are ready. Sunday will be a day to remember,” he said.
