Former Erute North parliamentary contestant Benard Ogwal has reaffirmed his support for Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as mobilisation activities by the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) intensify in the Lango Sub-region ahead of an endorsement event scheduled for October 4.
Ogwal, a former National Resistance Movement (NRM) parliamentary aspirant, has been participating in activities aimed at mobilising supporters and strengthening grassroots structures ahead of the planned gathering in Lira City.
As part of the mobilisation efforts, Ogwal contributed Shs2 million towards activities organised by supporters. Organisers described the contribution as a demonstration of his continued involvement in the mobilisation drive.
Ogwal said his immediate focus was supporting mobilisation initiatives and strengthening grassroots engagement across Lango.
He, however, said he is not currently planning to combine his professional work with active elective politics when asked whether he intended to seek an elective position in the 2031 elections.
He said he would continue supporting Gen. Muhoozi’s mobilisation efforts and contributing to community and public-service activities outside elected office.
The development comes amid increased activity by PLU supporters across the country following Gen. Muhoozi’s declaration in August that he would contest for the presidency in 2031. PLU has since undertaken endorsement and mobilisation activities in several parts of the country.
In September, PLU supporters and political leaders from different regions publicly endorsed Gen. Muhoozi, including a group of five MPs from the Ankole sub-region.
In Lango, preparations are underway for an October 4 gathering at the Mayor’s Garden in Lira City, where organisers say the sub-region will formally endorse Gen. Muhoozi for the 2031 presidential election.
The planned event is expected to bring together PLU supporters, political leaders, and community representatives from across the Lango Sub-region as the movement continues building its grassroots structures ahead of the 2031 political cycle.
