Deputy Lutwama Leads Economic Revival as Strategic Emyooga SACCOs in Alebtong Bag UGX 260M Support

Alebtong, Uganda — In a bold move to empower local communities and accelerate grassroots economic transformation, the Government of Uganda has disbursed UGX 260 million to various Emyooga Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) in Alebtong District.

The funding is in direct response to the Executive Directive issued by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on May 23, 2024, aimed at revitalizing local enterprises under the NRM government’s wealth creation strategy.

According to Mathias Lutwama, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Alebtong, the financing was based on extensive field assessments that identified organized, sensitized, and enterprising SACCOs that are ready to uplift their communities.

Lutwama explained that the President had directed government officials to go to the grassroots, identify the real economic drivers, and empower them.

He noted that through these disbursements, the government was fulfilling its sacred duty by supporting SACCOs that are actively transforming lives across the district.

Beneficiaries across Ajuri and Moroto counties each received UGX 20 million, including:

1. Boda Boda SACCO – Ajuri
2. Carpentry SACCO – Moroto
3. Market Vendors SACCO – Ajuri
4. Salon Operators – Moroto
5. Women Entrepreneurs – Ajuri
6. People with Disabilities – Moroto
7. People with Disabilities – Ajuri
8. Fishermen SACCO – Ajuri
9. Fishermen SACCO – Moroto
10. Elected Leaders SACCO – Ajuri

In a special recognition of excellence, the Women Entrepreneurs SACCO of Moroto received UGX 40 million, double the standard amount.

Lutwama noted that this group had demonstrated unmatched dedication, innovation, and financial discipline, making a significant contribution to local economic growth that could not go unnoticed.

The Deputy RDC emphasized that this financial support was part of a broader government strategy to implement the NRM Manifesto at the grassroots.

He stressed that this was only the beginning of a larger journey toward inclusive development in Alebtong.

He pointed out that the government’s goal was not just to disburse funds but to build a stronger, more resilient Alebtong—“one SACCO, one village, and one entrepreneur at a time.”

This intervention signals a deep commitment by the government to ensure that traditionally marginalized groups such as women, youth, people with disabilities, and informal sector workers are not left behind in Uganda’s journey toward middle-income status.

Members have been encouraged to uphold transparency, accountability, and proper utilization to grow their enterprises and reduce household poverty as the funds are deposited into SACCO accounts.
