Lira, Uganda – In a bid to uplift grassroots sports, Hon. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, Minister of Health and Lira City Woman MP, has donated essential sports equipment to Lango Sports Academy.
The contribution marks a significant investment in the region’s young footballers and their dreams of excelling in football.
The donation, which included goalpost nets, bibs and other key training items, is expected to address the academy’s long-standing challenges in accessing quality sports gear.
While handing over the equipment, Hon. Aceng emphasized the dual importance of sports and education.
“Football may open doors, but education will sustain you. Always strive to balance the two,” she advised.
The Minister also praised Lango Sports Academy for its role in nurturing talent and securing sports bursaries for players.
Notably, some of its trainees have earned scholarships at institutions such as Mentor SS Lira and schools outside the Lango sub-region.
The academy’s CEO, Moto Ronald expressed gratitude for the support, describing it as a game-changer for their activities.
“This will help us provide better training for both boys and girls. We’re building a generation of disciplined and skilled players,” he said.
Currently, the academy trains at the playing field of Mother Silva Nursery and Primary School in Ober, Lira City West Division.
Despite the limited facilities, the academy continues to promote inclusivity by providing training for both boys and girls.
Hon. Aceng also pledged to create more opportunities for the academy, further strengthening the region’s talent pipeline.
“We need to connect these young players to platforms where their skills can be showcased and rewarded,” she added.
This act of support underscores the Minister’s commitment to grassroots sports as a tool for youth empowerment and regional development.
