Kenya Tightens Financial Integrity Laws with New Reforms

Loading

Nairobi, Kenya | Kenya has taken a significant step toward strengthening its financial integrity framework with the signing into law of the Anti-Money Laundering and Combating of Terrorism Financing Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

The legislation, assented to by the President William Ruto at State House Nairobi, is designed to seal legal loopholes that have previously enabled illicit financial flows, particularly through property transactions and the use of shell companies.

The move aligns with Kenya’s broader reform agenda to entrench its position as a regional leader in regulatory enforcement and financial transparency.

The President also signed into law the Insurance Professionals Bill (National Assembly Bills No. 13 of 2024).

This legislation seeks to raise professional standards and improve the quality of service delivery within the insurance industry.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Solicitor-General Shadrack Mose, and Finance and National Planning Committee Chairperson Kuria Kimani, among other key government officials.

The new legal instruments mark a continued commitment by the Kenyan government to fight financial crimes, enhance accountability, and boost investor confidence in the country’s financial systems.
