Kampala, Uganda | There is growing tension at Kyambogo University after the 21st Guild Speaker, Rt. Hon. Atuhaire Sharon, officially notified the University administration of their decision not to attend a scheduled meeting with the Vice Chancellor.
In a letter dated 28th April 2025, addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Atuhaire Sharon explained that the Guild leadership, including executive members, would not participate in the meeting citing the incarceration of the Guild President, whose presence, she says, is critical for addressing key student issues.
The Guild Speaker further revealed that due to the absence of the President, the report concerning students’ grievances was also not prepared, making it difficult to proceed with meaningful discussions.
“…His input is vital in deliberations concerning student issues…,” Atuhaire stated, requesting that the meeting be postponed until the Guild President is available to ensure full representation and inclusivity of student concerns.
The Speaker emphasized the importance of collective leadership, stating that moving forward without the Guild President would undermine the process of addressing student affairs effectively.
The letter was copied to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration), Dean of Students, University Secretary and University Bursar.
Efforts by Dokolo Post News to get a comment from the University administration were still ongoing by press time.
This development comes at a time when Kyambogo University is grappling with several unresolved student grievances, raising concerns about how the absence of student leadership could impact the dialogue process between students and management.
