Lira City, Uganda – On Friday, 20th December 2024, Lira City Woman MP and Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero extended remarkable support to the Lango Entertainers Union by donating UGX 5 million.
This act of generosity aims to strengthen the union, which unites producers, artists, DJs, MCs, and other creative professionals from the region.
The Lango Entertainers Union, under the stewardship of Chairperson Professor Maros Atine, organized a Thanksgiving prayer at Mayor’s Garden, Lira City, to reflect on their journey and seek divine guidance for the future.
Emeritus Bishop Alfred Acur Okodi of West Lango Diocese led the prayers, which were attended by over 50 union members.
In her remarks, Dr. Aceng commended the entertainers for coming together to form a strong, unified association.
She lauded Professor Maros for his leadership and encouraged other entertainers to join the union to enhance collaboration and growth.
While unable to attend the event personally due to some other engagements, Dr. Aceng emphasized the importance of prudent financial management and urged the union to invest the funds in sustainable ventures that would yield long-term benefits.
Professor Maros expressed his gratitude for the Minister’s support, describing it as a landmark moment for the union.
He warned against the mismanagement of funds and called for investments in projects that would ensure financial stability.
Mr. Dee, the union’s speaker and a celebrated artist, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that the funds should be used to create income-generating opportunities such as acquiring hireable chairs or initiating small-scale loan programs.
He clarified that the Lango Entertainers Union is a non-political entity open to support from all individuals or organizations willing to uplift the entertainment industry.
Notable attendees included prominent artists like Vera, T’far Wizzy, Gye Slence Igwe, Inno Rap Jaguar, Jay Murphy Atin Ker, Lincoln, and others.
Zena Opolot, a close coordinator of Dr. Aceng’s initiatives in Lira City also attended, reaffirming the Minister’s commitment to grassroots empowerment.
This generous contribution by Dr. Aceng has been described as a turning point for the Lango Entertainers Union.
Members see it as an opportunity to build a financially stable and impactful association that supports the creative industry in the Lango sub-region.
