MP Abeja Rallies Otuke Farmers with Coffee Plan, Donates UGX 2.5M Piano to Church

Otuke, Uganda – In a bid to transform Otuke into a hub for coffee production, Hon. Susan Abeja, Woman MP for Otuke District, has rallied local farmers to invest in coffee farming, promising free seedlings for those with ready land.

Addressing hundreds of residents during a high-spirited fundraising event at Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel in Orum Parish on 12th January 2025, Abeja highlighted coffee as a “golden opportunity” to boost household incomes.

The MP’s engagement didn’t stop at agriculture, she donated a brand-new piano worth UGX 2.5 million, sparking jubilant celebrations among parishioners.

“Music uplifts the soul, and I’m committed to supporting both spiritual and economic growth in Otuke,” Abeja said.

Beyond the piano, she pledged bags of cement to kick-start the construction of priests’ residences in Orum Parish and Ogwete Sub-Parish.

She also announced plans to meet with Orum catechists next month to form a united group eligible for government programs such as eucalyptus and coffee seedling distribution.

Fr. Emmanuel Opio Itam, the Parish Priest, lauded Abeja’s unwavering support and described the fundraiser as a major step toward improving the welfare of clergy in the area.

“This project will provide decent housing for our priests and future guests. With your support, we can make it happen,” he told the congregation, promising that construction would begin in February.

The event raised UGX 5.9 million in cash and UGX 1.07 million in pledges, including 71 bags of cement.

According to a member of the organizing committee of the fundraising Oleng Jimmy, the funds will be split equally between the two parishes of Orum and Ogwete to aid in the construction of Priests residences.
