Amolatar, Uganda – As part of his commitment to empowering youth and fostering community unity, Kioga County MP aspirant Col. Dr. Francis Ongia has announced the launch of the Uhuru Cup, an exciting football tournament that will bring together teams from seven sub-counties.
With a focus on promoting social relationships and camaraderie, the tournament aims to ignite a shared passion for sports among Kioga County’s young residents.
Ayeni Andrew, organizing committee chairman for the tournament, confirmed that preliminary matches will be held to determine the teams representing each sub-county.
Sixteen balls have been purchased, with each sub-county receiving two, ensuring fair play and equal opportunities for all participants.
Col. Dr. Ongia has taken all necessary steps to guarantee the tournament’s success, including liaising with the Amolatar District Football Association (DFA) and securing their support.
Ongia’s dedication to the cause is further demonstrated by his subscription to the DFA and the provision of essential resources such as balls and jerseys for the various teams.
The tournament’s winning team will be awarded a prestigious trophy, medals, and cash prizes, fueling a healthy competitive spirit among participants.
Points will determine the teams’ progress, with draws and fixtures yet to be announced.
Scheduled to commence on August 31, the Uhuru Cup is expected to conclude on October 9, 2024.
Organizers believe that this event will serve as a powerful platform for fostering connections and promoting positive social interactions among Kioga County’s youth.
