Otuke, Uganda – Residents of Angaro, Atira Parish, Ogwete Subcounty, Otuke East County in Otuke District, will soon have access to reliable, clean water, thanks to a new solar-powered water pump project.
Spearheaded by Member of Parliament (MP), Julius Acon Bua, this project promises to change the lives of the 1,200 community members by offering a sustainable and accessible water solution.
Launched on Friday, March 21, 2025, and expected to be completed by March 30, 2025, the project will cost 45 million UGX and includes the installation of a solar-powered pump along with a 600-meter pipeline to the Angaro Trading Center.
This cutting-edge water system will provide year-round access to clean water, easing the daily struggle that residents face in accessing water for both consumption and sanitation.
“The solar-powered water pump will be a game-changer for the people of Angaro,” said MP Acon. “It will reduce the burden on women and children who have to walk long distances to fetch water. This project will not only improve access to water but will also uplift the entire community, allowing residents to focus on other essential activities like farming and education.”
Currently, the community relies on boreholes that have struggled to meet the growing water demands of Angaro’s population.
With this new solar-powered system, residents will no longer face water shortages, which have been exacerbated by the region’s dry seasons.
The environmentally friendly solar pump will ensure that the community benefits from a clean, sustainable water source for many years to come.
The new system aligns with the district’s broader development goals of promoting sustainable, green solutions that address both water and energy needs.
