Kwania, Uganda – Police in Kwania District are investigating the suspected murder of Atim Ronald, a 25-year-old resident of Anywar village, Lwal parish, Atongtidi Sub-County, who was killed by a mob on March 10, 2025.

According to a report by Ocen Isaac, a 39-year-old clan chief, Atim was accused of stealing a bicycle, a mattress and a metallic box containing money from a local Sacco group.

He also allegedly attacked his father and other family members with a machete (panga) before threatening passersby.

Witnesses say Atim stopped three unidentified men on a motorcycle and attempted to harm them, leading to a confrontation.

A crowd gathered, overpowered him and beat him to death before dispersing.

Police have registered the case but have not yet visited the scene or conducted a post-mortem.

Preliminary findings indicate that Atim had a criminal record and had just been released from a seven-month prison sentence for theft three weeks earlier.

SP PJ Okema, the North Kyoga Police PRO, condemned the mob action, urging the public to report suspected criminals to law enforcement instead of taking the law into their own hands.

He also encouraged ex-convicts to engage in government programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga for rehabilitation.

Authorities are calling for calm as investigations continue.
