Lira, Uganda – Political tensions in Alebtong District have reached a boiling point following allegations of death threats against Alebtong District Youth Councillor Ayang Ronnie Geoffrey, a campaigner for Woman MP aspirant Dr. Lakisa Mercy.
Ayang’s chilling account, shared during a press conference at 2 Friends Hotel in Lira City on December 31, 2024, has prompted police investigations and deepened concerns about the toxic nature of Alebtong’s political climate.
Ayang revealed receiving two anonymous threats tied to his campaigning efforts. The first, delivered to his residence in Boke Agali Parish on December 18, 2024, warned him to cease supporting Dr. Lakisa, describing Alebtong as a “politically dangerous area.” Initially dismissing it as a scare tactic, Ayang continued his work undeterred.
The situation escalated on December 30, 2024, when he discovered another letter at his doorstep, accompanied by three eggs – a grim symbol of fragility and mortality. The note ominously stated Ayang’s life would “end recklessly like an egg.”
Alarmed, Ayang reported the incident to Adekokwok Police Station.
Investigations quickly unfolded, with police deploying a sniffer dog that led them to the home of Sam Brunos Aliga.
According to Ayang, Aliga, a local resident, has denied involvement, claiming he was with former Alebtong Woman MP Acen Christine at the time of the alleged incident.
Aliga has since provided a statement to the police. The case, registered under CRR 47/24, has been transferred to Lira Central Police Station for further probing.

During the press conference, Ayang called for a return to democratic principles.
Ayang remained resolute in his support for Dr. Lakisa Mercy, criticizing political families allegedly linked to the threats.
Attempts to reach Aliga for comments went in vain as he did not answer or return calls from our reporter after several attempts.
Dr. Lakisa Mercy, the aspiring Woman Member of Parliament for Alebtong District (2026–2031), confirmed being informed of the threats by Ayang.
She advised him to report the matter to police for proper investigation.
The Alebtong Woman MP race pits Dr. Lakisa against incumbent Dorcus Acen and former MP Acen Christine, fueling rivalries that have occasionally spilled over into allegations of voter intimidation and factional politics.
The Uganda Police Force has pledged to investigate thoroughly and ensure justice is served.
Ayang has vowed to press on, stating his fate lies in God’s hands, not in the threats of men.
The Alebtong contest serves as a microcosm of broader calls for peaceful, transparent and issue – driven politics across Uganda as the 2026 elections loom.
