President Museveni Donates 41 Dairy Cows to Katakwi District Councillors

Katakwi, Uganda – Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo has urged district councillors in Katakwi to put to productive use the dairy cows donated to them by President Yoweri Museveni, emphasizing that the animals are not for sale but a tool to boost household incomes.

A total of 41 councillors each received an in-calf heifer during a ceremony held at Getom Sub-county cattle holding ground.

The donation follows President Museveni’s commitment made during his recent Parish Development Model (PDM) tour in the district.

While addressing the councillors, Vice President Alupo reminded them that the cows, once they calve, will begin producing milk, providing a reliable income source if well cared for.

She emphasized the need for discipline and responsibility in managing the livestock.

She said the cows should not be sold, but rather, “These cows are a starting point for transforming your lives. Take good care of them and be exemplary to your communities.”

She advised them to follow veterinary guidance on vaccination and treatment to ensure the health and productivity of the animals.

Alupo added that with proper care, the cows would improve livelihoods and set an example for others in their respective communities.

After the handover, Alupo officiated at the belated Women’s Day celebrations at Atoroma Primary School, where she also donated a brand-new tractor to the Katakwi District Women’s Group to support agricultural productivity and economic empowerment.

She explained that, “This initiative is a testament to the government’s commitment to empowering leaders and communities.”

She encouraged all beneficiaries to maximize the opportunity for sustainable development by being diligent, focused, and forward-looking.

The event was attended by key dignitaries including His Highness Emorimor Papa Iteso Paul Sande Emolot, MPs, Minister for Disability Hellen Grace Asamo, Minister for Ethics and Integrity Roselily Akello and other invited guests.
