Soroti, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially launched the Soroti Industrial Presidential Skilling Hub, a transformative facility aimed at equipping youth with practical skills for employment and self-reliance.

Located in Soroti District, the modern hub currently trains 240 students from the Teso Subregion in key trades such as welding, carpentry, hairdressing, industrial art, and bricklaying.
Its open admission policy ensures accessibility to all, regardless of academic qualifications, offering a lifeline to many young Ugandans in search of opportunities.
“This skilling hub is a critical step in creating a generation capable of harnessing Uganda’s industrial and service sector opportunities,” Museveni stated during his address.
The hub is part of the government’s broader initiative to establish industrial skilling centres across the country, aligned with Uganda’s Vision 2040.
By prioritizing vocational education, the government aims to bridge the skills gap, reduce unemployment, and foster socio-economic transformation.
President Museveni, who toured the hub’s facilities and interacted with trainees, commended their determination to learn life-changing skills.
He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in preparing Uganda’s workforce for industrialisation and economic growth.
The event was attended by prominent leaders, including Vice President Jesca Alupo, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, and NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong.

Their presence underscored the government’s collective effort to address youth unemployment through targeted interventions.
Following the launch, President Museveni is meeting district leaders and technical staff from the Teso Subregion at Kumi Boma Grounds.
Discussions will focus on wealth creation strategies and government programmes like Emyooga and the Parish Development Model (PDM), aimed at uplifting rural communities and eradicating poverty.
The residents of Soroti have expressed optimism about the hub’s potential to transform the region. “This is a chance for our youth to gain meaningful employment and contribute to the growth of our economy,” said a local leader.
The initiative is expected to inspire similar projects across Uganda, equipping more youth with practical skills to thrive in the country’s evolving economy.
As part of his regional tour, he will visit Kaberamaido tomorrow to interact with the public and assess ongoing wealth creation programmes.
Leaders such as Captain Mike Mukula, Evelyn Anite, and Hellen Seku are accompanying Museveni to reinforce the government’s commitment to development in Teso.
The launch of the Soroti Skilling Hub is a testament to the government’s determination to invest in youth empowerment, vocational training, and sustainable economic growth. It stands as a beacon of hope for Uganda’s journey toward a prosperous and self-reliant future.
