Kumi, Uganda – Residents of Nyero in Kumi District are struggling to come to terms with a shocking incident that claimed the life of a 14-year-old girl, Titin Jane.

The young pupil tragically passed away on June 26, 2024, after being allegedly punched in the chest by a 13-year-old male pupil during a heated altercation at Auruku Ominai Primary School in Ogoma Sub-county, Kumi District.
According to the acting PRO of East Kyoga, Obukulem Edison, the incident occurred around 12:50 PM while the pupils were playing in class. What began as a seemingly trivial disagreement between the two classmates quickly spiraled out of control, culminating in the fatal confrontation.
After the incident, Titin was rushed to Nyero Health Center by the Head Teacher but was pronounced dead by the attending medical officer.
The 13-year-old suspect, Etiang Ivan, was subsequently arrested and is currently being held at CPS Kumi under a case of murder registered as CRB:394/2024.
As news of the tragic event spread, relatives of the deceased unleashed their fury on the suspect’s family, looting livestock and razing several temporary and semi-temporary houses.
These acts of vengeance have compounded the suffering caused by the initial tragedy, leaving the community in a state of shock and despair.
In the aftermath of this heartbreaking event, the acting PRO has urged the public to remain calm and allow the legal process to take its course.
