Radio Apac at 25: From Cultural Beats to Bicycle Feats – A Silver Jubilee Like No Other!

Apac, Uganda – Radio Apac 92.9FM marked a significant milestone in its history on December 14, 2024, as it celebrated its silver jubilee, commemorating 25 years of service to the community in Northern Uganda.

The grand event, themed “Rooted in Culture, Inspired by Tomorrow,” took place at Apac Bomah Grounds and was a vibrant celebration of the station’s contributions to cultural preservation, innovation, and community development.

Established in 1999, Radio Apac has become an integral part of the lives of residents in Apac and beyond.

Over the years, the station has played a crucial role in preserving Lango culture, promoting local talent, and educating the community through informative and entertaining programming.

The jubilee celebration featured a wide range of activities that highlighted both tradition and progress.

Local innovators showcased their skills, demonstrating the region’s growing capacity for innovation. Bicycle races added excitement to the day, while traditional Lango dances and games, such as Omweso, reminded attendees of the importance of staying connected to their cultural roots.

Ms. Mery Akello Ojudu, the Local Council 1 Chairperson of Biashara Cell in Apac Municipality, lauded Radio Apac for its unwavering support of cultural preservation.

She emphasized the station’s vital role in fostering unity and pride within the community.

“Radio Apac has been a platform where our culture is preserved and celebrated, and this is an achievement worth acknowledging,” she remarked, drawing attention to the station’s long-lasting impact.

Kenneth Ongom, the station manager, reiterated the commitment of Radio Apac to meet the needs of the community, particularly in embracing technological advancements.

He assured the audience that the station would continue evolving to ensure its relevance in a rapidly changing world.

The day’s events culminated with a speech from the Chief Guest, Ambrose Agec Opio, who expressed gratitude to the Radio Apac team for their dedication.

Opio praised the station’s contributions to the region, acknowledging its role in bringing essential services such as information, entertainment, and education to the community.

“Radio Apac has been instrumental in delivering information, entertainment, and education. Your efforts are greatly appreciated, and your services continue to make a difference,” he remarked.

The silver jubilee celebration not only marked 25 years of excellence but also served as a reminder of Radio Apac’s enduring legacy.

As the station looks ahead, it remains “Rooted in Culture, Inspired by Tomorrow,” promising to continue its mission as a beacon of progress, unity, and cultural pride in Northern Uganda.
