The event occurred at a fuel station in Kinyarwanda village, Nakawa Division, Kampala, where Bakya and his colleague, Siliwan Apeti, were guarding a Bajaj Boxer UEO 570E motorcycle overnight at the owner’s request.
Upon discovering the motorcycle’s disappearance the next morning, Bakya became increasingly distressed about the potential consequences, including being held responsible for the loss and the possibility of being arrested by the police.
Apeti attempted to console Bakya, but unfortunately, he took his own life.
The deputy Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, mentioned that the police were alerted and collected cartridges, the deceased’s gun, and took the body for a postmortem.
Owoyesigyire highlighted that Bakya should have reported the incident to his superiors or the police to initiate a search for the missing motorcycle.
“He rushed to end his life. It took him only two hours after he realized the motorcycle had been stolen,” Owoyesigyire added.
The police are currently investigating the incident, with a focus on Apeti and the motorcycle owner, to determine whether foul play was involved.
