Amolatar, Uganda – Janet Auma Okao, a former legislator and member of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), has officially announced her bid to reclaim the Woman Member of Parliament seat for Amolatar District in the 2026 general elections.
During a recent rally in Etam Sub County, Auma called on UPC supporters in Amolatar and across Uganda to remain committed to the party, praising its track record of delivering for the people.
Auma paid tribute to UPC’s founder, Dr. Apollo Milton Obote, calling him a “divine blessing” for the people of Lango.
She emphasized the need for unity, development and resource utilization, particularly in Amolatar’s thriving fish industry, which she described as a “God-given” asset for the district.
In her address, Auma stressed that UPC is not just a political party but a movement dedicated to bringing positive change.
She called for political unity, urging all stakeholders regardless of their party affiliation to work together for the betterment of the district.
Auma’s rallying cry centered on the importance of focusing on community-driven development rather than political divisions.
The race for Amolatar’s Woman MP seat is heating up ahead of the 2026 elections.
Auma is set to face Lilian Winny Atala in the UPC primaries, while the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries will see incumbent MP Dr. Agnes Atim Apea face off against Dorcus Akome.
Auma’s platform includes a strong focus on healthcare, education, infrastructure development and empowering the local community through better management of the district’s natural resources.
