Alebtong, Uganda – The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Alebtong, Mathias Lutwama, today January 23, 2024, held a significant corporate engagement with ex-servicemen from various historical military outfits.

These included the National Resistance Army (NRA), Uganda National Liberation Army (UNLA), Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF), Uganda Army, Abaka Anaka Boys, Kings African Rifles, and others.
In his address, Lutwama called on the veterans to unite and play a pivotal role in fostering socioeconomic transformation, a core pillar of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
He cautioned them against factionalism, warning that internal divisions undermine the government’s efforts to uplift the welfare of ex-servicemen and the broader community.
“Katika Ujenzi wa Taifa wewe ni Muhimu Zaidi,” Lutwama remarked in Swahili.
The Deputy RDC also brought to light the recently proposed UPDF Amendment Bill, emphasizing its focus on improving the welfare of veterans and their dependents.

“His Excellency the President, as Commander-in-Chief, through Parliament, has prioritized the welfare of veterans in this bill,” Lutwama stated, adding that the legislation is a testament to the government’s commitment to recognizing the sacrifices of its military heroes.
Lutwama encouraged the veterans to operate under one unified and legally accredited organization to strengthen their advocacy and partnership with government programs.
He urged them to coordinate closely with the District Internal Security Officer (DISO) for streamlined operations and effective service delivery.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous resolution by all ex-servicemen to actively participate in enhancing community security and promoting household development.
They pledged to work collectively in driving initiatives that will uplift their living standards and contribute to the socioeconomic growth of Alebtong District.
This engagement reaffirms the NRM government’s dedication to integrating veterans into the national development agenda while addressing their specific needs.
With their commitment to unity and progress, Alebtong’s veterans are poised to play a transformative role in their communities.
For veterans like those in Alebtong, this marks a renewed sense of purpose and recognition of their invaluable contributions to Uganda’s history and future.
