President Museveni Joins Ateker Tribes for Historic Reunion Festival in Soroti

Soroti, Uganda – The Ateker Reunion Festival, a landmark event celebrating the shared heritage of the Ateker tribes, has kicked off in Soroti Sports Ground with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the Chief Guest.

This is the first time Uganda is hosting the festival, which has attracted thousands from across East Africa. 

President Museveni is expected to officially open the event, emphasizing its importance in fostering unity among the Ateker communities, which include the Lango, Kumam, Karamojong, Kakwa, Teso, Turkana from Kenya and others.

His presence underscores the government’s commitment to cultural preservation and regional cooperation. 

Her Excellency Maj. (Rtd.) Jesca Alupo, Uganda’s Vice President, has already arrived to support the occasion, alongside traditional leaders such as Emori Erimor of Teso, who is hosting the delegates.

Chiefs from Teso, Lango, Kumam, Teso and Karamoja have also gathered, symbolizing the unity and collaboration among Ateker tribes. 

The festival brings together Ateker tribes from Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and South Sudan in a colorful display of cultural performances, including traditional dances, music and storytelling.

Craft exhibitions and food stalls further highlight the rich traditions of the Ateker communities. 

Thousands have flocked to Soroti to witness the cultural extravaganza.

The festival serves as a platform for dialogue and the celebration of common heritage, with speeches from leaders emphasizing peace, cultural pride, and unity. 

Attendees look forward to President Museveni’s address, which is expected to highlight the role of culture in national development and the need for unity among diverse communities. 

The Ateker Reunion Festival not only celebrates the past but also lays the foundation for stronger bonds across borders, ensuring that the heritage of the Ateker tribes thrives for future generations.
