Oyam, Uganda – Stella Anyango has officially declared her intention to contest for the position of Woman Member of Parliament for Oyam District in the upcoming 2026–2031 elections, pledging to champion good governance, grassroots empowerment and inclusive development.

Unveiling her manifesto over the weekend, Anyango anchored her leadership on a set of core values: Integrity and Accountability, Equity and Justice, Service Before Self, Transparency and Participation, and Civilian Oversight of Security.

She said her mission is to restore public trust in leadership by promoting honest, community-centered representation.

Her leadership strategy is built on five key pillars: Good Governance and Rule of Law, Agriculture and Livelihoods, Education and Youth Empowerment, Healthcare and Social Welfare and Infrastructure and Environment.

Under the governance pillar, Anyango pledged to establish a transparent and corruption-free district leadership, strengthen the role of local councils and involve community members in policymaking.

She also emphasized the importance of peacebuilding and reconciliation through engagement with elders, youth, and religious leaders.

In the agricultural sector, she promised to support farmers with improved seeds, training, and access to markets.

She vowed to protect and revive cooperative societies and SACCOs, introduce irrigation systems and promote value addition for agricultural products to boost household incomes.

On education, Anyango plans to rehabilitate schools, advocate for better pay and housing for teachers, and launch district-wide vocational training programs.

She also promised bursaries for academically gifted but financially challenged students.

Her health agenda focuses on improving services in health centres, ensuring the availability of essential drugs and pushing for better staffing and equipment, especially in rural health units.

She also pledged to support the elderly and persons with disabilities with dignity and care.

For infrastructure and the environment, Anyango committed to advocating for quality roads, rural electrification and the protection of natural resources such as wetlands and forests.

She plans to launch tree-planting and environmental awareness campaigns in schools and communities.

She urged the people of Oyam District to shun money-driven politics and instead vote based on integrity, competence, and commitment to community service.

In a surprising turn of political support, several NRM leaders in Oyam District have endorsed Stella Anyango’s candidacy, placing her in direct competition with Hon. Santa Alum Ogwang, the incumbent legislator and a member of the UPC party.

Stella Anyango with her bold vision and reform-driven agenda is positioning herself as a fresh, people-centered alternative in Oyam’s 2026 parliamentary race.
